SHORT HISTORY

Welcome to Poggio Bustone

The name that makes us recall the journey of Francis of Assisi and his first companions to communion with God, with one another, with the people and with all of creation. Initially rejected by their hometown, they journeyed to look for a place where they could discern the Will of God for them. Upon reaching the town up on a mountain, to the curious onlookers of who could, they are: he greeted them, Buon Giorno! Buona Gente! It is the same greeting we return back to you: Good day! Good people! as we introduce ourselves and invite you to “come and see” and linger awhile at Poggio Bustone, our renewal center.

We are Franciscans, your Lesser Brothers, humbly striving to live and give witness to our charismatic identity as a contemplative fraternity in mission. In the spirit of St. Francis and his first companions, let us be your co-journeyers to reconciliation with God, with ourselves and with creation, as we tread together the pathways that will bring us to Communion with God through life-giving listening to, “tasting and seeing” the Word of God, in prayer and in contemplation Communion with oneself by finding the inner peaceful self Communion with one another as we recognize that all of us are God’s children Communion with nature as we commit ourselves to respect and care for creation.

Poggio Bustone is located along the beach of Zambales, the province connected to the Franciscans since San Pedro Bautista, a Franciscan missionary, fought for the human rights of the Zambales natives.
